Dave Dobbyn: A Slice of Heaven - 40 Years of Hits (-)

DAVE DOBBYN
SLICE OF HEAVEN - 40 YEARS OF HITS TOUR

ROYAL WANGANUI OPERA HOUSE
FRIDAY 21 APRIL  8PM

Dave Dobbyn Announces Slice Of Heaven - 40 Years of Hits Tour and Album

Bonafide Kiwi legend Dave Dobbyn is celebrating 40 years as a songwriter, recording artist and performer with a nationwide tour taking in twelve centres this April.

For full tour and ticket information visit davedobbyn.co.nz.

Dobbyn’s extraordinary musical career began with high school band Th’ Dudes. His first try at writing a song was a ‘disaster’ and never saw the light of day, but he took the next attempt to the band. That song - ‘Be Mine Tonight’ - went on to be Th’ Dudes first release and winner of Single of the Year at the National Music Awards in 1979.

Four decades on, Dave Dobbyn’s music has become part of the nation’s soundtrack. He has an astonishing 10 songwriting credits on APRA’s Top 100 New Zealand Songs of All Time,

featuring songs released by Th’ Dudes, DD Smash and as a solo artist. He’s won Best Male Vocalist a record six times and the most awards of any New Zealand musician - three Silver Scroll awards and 29 New Zealand Music Awards across his career. The music hasn’t stopped coming  -  he released a 10th studio album as a solo artist,  ‘Harmony House’,  just last year.

All these songs and many more will feature in a theatre tour with Dobbyn and his full band, along with anecdotes about how the songs came to be written, told in his inimitable style.

The tour is a classic rock n roll roadtrip down the country, kicking off in Whangarei on 12 April and wrapping up just over two weeks later in Invercargill.

“Playing provincial New Zealand gigs is my favourite thing,” Dobbyn said. “I love it so much, it’s pure pleasure. Just being aware of the community and community life - everyone’s celebrating, there’s an energy flow that’s healthily contagious.”

The tour coincides with the release of the Slice Of Heaven - 40 Years of Hits album to be released by Sony on 7 April.

Soul Food - Kelvin Cruickshank (-)

SOUL FOOD WANGANUI
KELVIN CRUICKSHANK

ROYAL WANGANUI OPERA HOUSE
SATURDAY 22 APRIL  7PM - 9.30PM
DOORS OPEN AT 6.30PM

By popular demand NZ Medium Kelvin Cruickshank returns to Wanganui with SOUL FOOD

Passing on messages from people who have died and are in spirit is what Kelvin was put on earth to do. However, since the incredible success of Sensing Murder there's been such a great demand from people on this side wanting private readings that it is just not physically possible for him to do them anymore. The best way for Kelvin to be able to put people in touch with the loved ones they've lost - and also help them to understand how the afterlife works - is through his live shows, Soul Food.

When you come to his Soul Food shows, please come with an open heart and an open mind. Kelvin tries to read for as many people as possible but what happens on the night is up to spirit, not Kelvin. If there is a lot of expectation from the audience it can create a barrier. So relax, chill out and enjoy the show, and you never know - it could be your loved ones who show up. And even if they don't, hopefully the evening will open your eyes to the fact those we've lost are now in the white light, and their spirit lives on.

THE CHILLS
Vigorous and Far-reaching New Zealand tour
With support from Anthonie Tonnon

ROYAL WANGANUI OPERA HOUSE
SATURDAY 29 APRIL 8PM

Out on the tar sealed and gravelly roads this April and May, legendary Dunedin pop group The Chills have announced their embarkation on a vigorous and far-reaching New Zealand tour.

Stopping in major musical centres Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, as well as key outreaches such as Whanganui, Paekakariki, Queenstown, Napier, Raglan, Mount Maunganui, and including a performance in Invercargill as part of the Southland Arts Festival.

Fronted by the rare talent of Martin Phillipps, The Chills were originally formed in 1980 and had a revolving cast of band members with Phillipps remaining the only constant. His knack for writing fantastic pop songs led to chart hits back home and a cult following around the world. With early releases via the legendary NZ label Flying Nun, The Chills produced a number of critically acclaimed recordings such as the single “Pink Frost” (their first hit) from the compilation album Kaleidoscope World and “Wet Blanket” from the LP Brave Words.

At the height of their success John Peel invited them in for a number of BBC sessions (1985/1987/1988) which were released for the first time late last year. They released the album Submarine Bells in 1990, where their single, “Heavenly Pop Hit” garnered much international praise and press. The band returned to NZ as national heroes and proceeded to release several more albums including Soft Bomb and Sunburnt.

With a few years hiatus due to health problems, Martin picked up The Chills again in ’99 and throughout the 00’s playing shows around the world and reaching a wider audience and gaining a cult following.

The energy of their live performances is the central reason why The Chills are remembered fondly in all thirty-nine of the countries that they have thus far visited. It’s the combination of this and the consistent quality of their songs which have established The Chills as one of the most well-known New Zealand groups to date - particularly in the US,UK and Europe.

The highly anticipated new album (the first in almost 20 years) ‘Silver Bullets’ was released on 30th October 2015 on Fire Records to critical applause, and in June 2016 the band went on to play Primavera Festival, Spain and sold out New York City and London shows. Soon after, their jangling, iconic masterpiece 'Kaleidoscope World' was re-released with additional tracks on Flying Nun on double gatefold vinyl to universal critical acclaim.

The Chills are:
Martin Phillipps (Guitar/Vox), James Dickson (Bass/Backing Vocals), Todd Knudson (Drums/Backing Vocals), Erica Scally (Guitar/Keyboards/Violin/Backing Vocals) and Oli Wilson (Keyboards/Backing Vocals).

Catch the band at a venue near you this April/ May.
