Iolanthe (-)

Wellington G&S Light Opera presents

All this and Sullivan’s great music too! – With echoes of “Yes, Prime Minister”, Parliament and the Judiciary are joyfully lampooned in Gilbert’s farcical Comic Opera. It plays upon the helplessness of authorities when hopelessly compromised by romantic entanglement and pressures of keeping up political appearances. Gilbert’s knowing digs at the pitfalls of power have wide appeal. Musical numbers such as the Nightmare Song and When Britain Really Ruled the Waves are legend.

This sparkling production of IOLANTHE directed by John Goddard tours in June and July fully staged, performing 1 July at Royal Wanganui Opera House at 7:30pm. The cast of 32 singers and dancers with 24 piece orchestra is conducted by Hugh McMillan; live music at its best, brought to you by the producers of the 2015 “Gondoliers” and 2016 “Merry Widow” tours.

A wide range of seating reserves and concession options provide all-age and family accessibility, with group discounts for 5 and 10-up seat purchases. Refer details on www.gns.org.nz
